1st Quarter Project: Painting at the Lehman Center - The York Jaycees will be painting a room at the Lehman center in the first quarter of 2005. 2nd Quarter Project: Volunteering with York
Arts "Art-in-Residence" Event - The York Jaycees will
be staffing the annual York
Arts 3rd Quarter Project: Seniors Prom - The 3rd Quarter Community Project of the York Jaycees will be a "Seniors Prom". Residents at Colonial Manor will enjoy an evening of music with York Jaycees volunteers. Children are welcome. Volunteers are encouraged to wear black tie attire. This is a special time for the residents. York Jaycees will also be collecting items to be donated, such as tissue packs, lotions, beaded necklaces, stationary tablets and jumbo word finds. 4th Quarter Project: The Catholic Harvest Food Pantry - The York Jaycees will collect non-perishable food items and deliver the items the day they volunteer to work at the Food Pantry for approximately two hours. The Catholic Harvest Food Pantry provides groceries based on family size and need. Blood Drives - The York Jaycees donate blood at least six times per year at Apple Hill Medical Center to benefit the York Blood Bank. The Center is in desperate need for donors. Jaycees can donate blood within a week of the Jaycees designated date - just mention you're there to donate for the York Jaycees. Jaycees family members and friends can also donate on behalf of the York Jaycees - all they need to say is they're donating for the York Jaycees and we'll get credit. Financial Contributions - This project is a significant component of the culmination of the York Jaycees fundraising efforts. A committee oversees the application process: review, summary, presentation to membership for voting and final tally of voting outcome. Applications for financial grants are received, then voted upon by the membership. The York Jaycees intends to award a grand total of $12,000 via direct financial contributions each year. Agencies that receive staffing assistance from the York Jaycees during the year are removed from the application process. Food Runs - York Jaycees work with York Helping Hands, a local non-profit agency, to prepare, deliver and serve a hot meal along with a bag lunch to homeless and underprivileged adults and children within York City. The York Jaycees chapter raises money throughout the year to fund this project. Donations from local businesses help to defray costs. All leftover food from a food run is donated and delivered to the York Rescue Mission, another local non-profit agency. Hide-the-Line - This project has two components: raising funds for the project and then helping local underprivileged children and their families receive clothing during the holiday season. Funds are raised by asking for monetary donations at the local K-Mart, soliciting corporate donations and wrapping holiday presents at the local K-Mart in exchange for a donation. Some of the organizations that we work with to secure a list of children to help includes: Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, Lehman Center, York Helping Hands, Youth Advocate Group and Catholic Charities. Oysterfest - Jaycees staff this annual event that benefits The York Historical Society. This is YHS's largest fundraiser. York Jaycees help serve food and assist in the set-up and tear-down for the event. Junior Miss Scholarship - One scholarship in the amount of $500 will be awarded annually to a Pennsylvania Junior Miss in June. This program was founded by the Jaycees in the late 1920s as part of an annual spring floral program that encouraged community participation in various city beautification projects. The program was incorporated into a national scholarship program in 1957. The scholarship has been awarded in both the 'Spirit' and 'Be Your Best Self' categories. We look for dedication to community service in the applicants. Tom Glock Memorial Scholarship - One scholarship of at least $500 will be awarded annually to a local, college-bound student from the York area who will be attending Penn State, York College, Bradley Academy or York Technical Institute. Applications are available on the website. Please contact the York Jaycees for more information. |
